Why We Are Opening Funtown Play Café

Updated: Jun 20

I’ve been dreaming of opening a Play Café for quite some time—since 2019, to be exact. When you have young children, you know that feeling when you just need to get out of the house for a change of scenery. I also know the need for relationships and a connection with other adults. I’ve talked to local moms and sent out online surveys, only to confirm how much a space like this is needed in our community.

Of course, it’s not only about us adults. When my daughter was little, I struggled to find a safe place for her to play while I enjoyed some adult time. Many indoor playgrounds are designed for older children, and caregivers have to hover over their little ones to keep them safe. I faced the same issue with our second child.

We called Lake Wylie home in October 2019. Being from Europe and living so far away from my family was hard, especially with little kids. After purchasing our home in Lake Wylie and making lasting friends, I told myself, “This is it; I finally feel at home again.”

I will not lie and tell you that I wasn’t scared or worried. For this exact reason, I initially decided to start a smaller business—soft play rentals called Funtown Playground. I launched this soft play rental just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. I didn’t give up. I ensured that my equipment was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each party, so every client could have peace of mind, knowing I delivered germ-free equipment, allowing their little ones to have a great and unforgettable birthday party at home!

BUT this dream of owning a Play Café has been placed in my heart. Funtown Play Café will be inviting to both caregivers and children. It will be designed to make you feel welcome and comfortable. While we are working hard and aligning all the important things to make this dream happen, sit back, relax, and join our mailing list to stay up to date on the opening of the FIRST PLAY CAFÉ in Lake Wylie, SC!
